Gracie Mae Richmond was born to Rueben Wade and Beatrice L. Wade on May 10th,
1923 in Guthrie, Oklahoma. She attended Lincoln Elementary and Favor High School.
Gracie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized and united with the Mount
Zion Missionary Baptist Church. In those early years, she loved singing in the choir
and attending Sunday school.
Later Gracie met and married Alfred Baldwin and to this union her only child ,
Alfred Baldwin, Jr. was born. Later Alfred Baldwin Jr. met and married Ms. Vicki L.
Baker and together she had six grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and four
great-great grandchildren, and a host of relatives. Her special relatives and dear friends
include the Baldwins, the Richmonds, Romayne Glover & the Wade Family.
At Mount Zion, Gracie served as a minister’s wife, deaconess, Sunday school teacher,
President of WMU, worked in the Youth Department, and also sang in the choir.
In the St. Mark District Association, Gracie served as a secretary, President of the St. Mark
District WMU and a number of other responsibilities assigned by her Moderator.
Gracie also served as the Pastor’s wife at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church and New
Prospect Baptist Church while her husband, Rev. James Richmond served as Pastor.
She gladly supported her husband.
After Rev. James Richmond retired as Pastor, he and Sis. Gracie returned to Mount
Zion to serve as active members until their home going.
Viewing will be Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at
11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at Mount Zion Baptist Church with Reverend Vernon
Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetery under the direction of
Community Funeral Home.
