Guthrie

OBITUARY Print

Margaretta “Gretta” Ann Johnson was born August 25, 1944 in Ada, OK to Ann P. Norton and Robert Scott German, who died in World War II a month prior to Gretta’s birth. Ann then married Fred “Pop” Norton in 1952 and they raised Gretta in Buffalo and Oklahoma City, OK. Gretta passed away at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at the age of 76.
Gretta grew up in Buffalo, OK and still has many friends from her time there. She moved to Oklahoma City and then to Guthrie after marrying Don Johnson in 1966. Don and Gretta became members of the First Assembly of God in Edmond where they were active in the music ministry. While living in Guthrie, Gretta became involved in local car clubs and developed an interest in European antiques. Throughout her life in Guthrie, she worked in banking, real estate, the county assessor’s office, served as the administrative assistant at the First United Methodist Church, then shared her love of antiques working at Elks Alley.
Gretta loved all things about the 1960’s – poodle skirts, music, cars but most of all her three children, Donette, Darin and Todd Johnson, who still reside in Guthrie. Gigi was also blessed with several grandchildren and great grandchildren - Stephanie Lowrance and her children, Madyson, Ryder, Trooper and Francesca; Colby and Leslea Wagner and their children, Cortnea, Camryn and Carder; Collin and Hannah Duel and their daughter Eleanor, Tyler Johnson and his daughter Arianna, Connor and Amy Johnson and their son Maddox. In addition, she leaves behind two nieces, several cousins and a community of friends.
Gretta created a wonderful legacy through her perseverance and strength through adversity that will carry on to her family and friends. A private celebration of her home-going will be held with her family sometime in June. Friends may sign the on-line guestbook at www.community-guthrie.com.

Gigi always had a smile and a hug any time you saw her. She was one of the sweetest people I’ll ever have the pleasure of knowing. She’ll always be remembered.

Gretna and I lived across the street from each other in Buffalo.  Although I haven't been able to see her recent years, I'm going to miss her

Oh Gretta reading this just broke my heart. You were a wild child with love for everyone. last time I saw you was at Red Brick nights and you were dancing, laughing, and your smile was breathtaking. That will be the memory i carry with me of you. I pray you are dancing and singing in heaven. my prayers for your boys and i love you and them and will cherish our memories.
