Jo Ann Newman was born on May 26, 1926, and passed away on February 25, 2022. She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Marvin Newman; great grandson, Daniel Stahl; and granddaughter Rhonda Long.
She is survived by her two daughters, Patricia Ann Lightfoot (Ronnie) and Beverly June Bayne. Her surviving grandchildren include Lanae Stahl (Craig), Bonnie Scherry (Billy), Ronnie Lightfoot (Jess), Patrick Lightfoot (Hannah), Rebecca O’Connor (Dan), and Betty Morrison (Sam). She had a host of great-grandchildren including Matthew, Andrew, Elizabeth, Travis, Dillon, Wyatt, Ethan, Nolan, Libby, Shawn, Cory, Ashley, Joshua, and Benjamin and even more great-great-grandchildren - 34 in all! She loved them all passionately and loved spending time with her extended family.
Jo Ann loved to garden, can garden produce, paint, and quilt. She was an incredibly talented artist who loved to paint for her daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren as well as friends. She also loved to play the organ and really enjoyed this to pass the time in her later years. She was spirited and independent.
In her 70’s she overcame her lifelong fear of water, jumped on a trampoline with her great-grandchildren, learned to paint and played laser tag. She aspired to go skydiving for her 100th birthday.
She once accompanied a great-grandchild as a chaperone for a band trip to Chicago.
She also traveled to Kansas to watch another great-grandchild play in a USSSA world series.
For her 80th birthday, she played ultimate frisbee with grandkids and great grans!
She didn’t let anyone tell her what she could or couldn’t do!
She lived with both daughters at different times in her life; this was wonderful for all the extended family members as they were able to bond and form memorable, close relationships with her. She impacted the life of all who loved her. Her faith in Christ was strong and she really enjoyed attending worship services and drawing closer to Him. She and Marvin began a legacy of faith and service in ministry.
A funeral service is scheduled on Friday, March 4, 2022 at 2pm at the At The Cross church in Porum, OK. The graveside service will take place on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 1pm at Memory Gardens Memorial Cemetery, 1624 N. Pine Street, Guthrie, Oklahoma, 73044.
