Maxine Bickerstaff, 88, went to be with the Lord on October 5, 2020, at home, in Edmond, Oklahoma. She was born November 7, 1931, in Talihina, Oklahoma, the daughter of Joseph and Fannie White. Maxine graduated from Panama High School, Panama, Oklahoma, in 1949. She married Martin (Doc) Bickerstaff on June 20, 1950 in Van Buren, Arkansas. They were husband and wife for 36 years. Maxine worked over 11 years for the Oklahoma State Employment Security Commission. She retired in January 1992. Maxine was a Christian and loved the Lord and served Him in many areas over the years. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church since 1981. Maxine was an avid walker over her lifetime. Since her days of walking to the school bus, then walking around Guthrie, where she lived for many years, and finally, to walking the halls of her independent living community – where I was advised once she was the “Mario Andretti” of walkers.
In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Bickerstaff and her daughter, Gina Thurman, as well as many other relatives.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Lovingshimer and her husband, Larry and Debbie Elledge; four grandchildren, Vonda Lawson-McKee and her partner, John, Rachel Reynolds, Damon Thurman and his wife, Angel, and Nichole Lewis, and her husband, Michael; three great-grandchildren, Tyler McCaslin, his fiancé, Paige, Tristen McKee, his partner, Carissa and Sebastian Lewis, and her three great-great-grandchildren, Ellie, Wyatt and Archie, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be at Community Funeral Home, Friday, October 9, 9:00 am to 8:00 pm and Saturday, October 10, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.
