October 11, 1922 ~ August 31, 2021 (age 98)

Thelma Fay Chambers was born October 11, 1922 in Centerville, Iowa, to William Andrew Greenwell and Melissa Viola Pearson Greenwell, and passed from this life on August 31, 2021.

Although born in Iowa, she spent most of her adult life in Oklahoma, having lived in Guthrie since the mid 50’s. She was well known for her wonderful pies that were served at the Hill Top Café, as well as being an all around wonderful cook.  Besides having worked and later owning the Hill Top Cafe, she at various times worked in the Guthrie High School Kitchen, Tinker Field, Oklahoma Furniture Mfg. Company, Guthrie Job Corps, Leathers’ Red & White Grocery, Harvey’s Steakhouse, and F & H Grocery.  After she retired from gainful employment, she volunteered weekly at the House On Pine, a clothing ministry of the Poplar-Warner Church of Christ in Guthrie, where she attended regularly.

She is survived by three sons, Charles Byte of Kankakee, IL., Andrew Byte, of Pocasset, and Larry Byte (Marilyn) of Guthrie; one daughter, Ava Ahhaitty (Berkley) of Yukon.  Also left behind to mourn her loss are ten grandchildren: Charles Byte Jr. (Luanna) of Lake-in-the Hills, IL; Jill Sodt (Jeff) of Grand Blanc, MI; Glyn Byte (Amanda) of Blanchard; Julilyn Schroeder (Spencer) of Pocasset; Michael Byte (Sharon) of Guthrie, David Byte of  Rowlett, TX,  Gary Byte (Angie) of Stillwater, Nickolaus Lotridge and Cody Lotridge (Rebekah) all of OH; and Berkley Ahhaitty Jr. (Kayla Wright) of Yukon.

She is also survived by 15 great grandchildren: Chloe, Makinsey, and Cruz Byte of Blanchard; Cale, Camryn, Caisyn and Cutler Schroeder of Pocasset; Sydney Byte of Seattle, WA; Mackenzie Byte and Cosette Byte, of Stillwater; and Reagan and Liam Byte of Rowlett, TX; Anna Matzkvech of Dallas, TX; Tonya Tucker of Mustang; and Ruby Wrenn Wright Ahhaitty of Yukon.  There are also many nieces and nephews, including Roberta Greenwell of Coyle, Janet Evans and Donnita Ramsey both of Guthrie, and Eddie Greenwell of Eustis, FL.

She was pre-deceased by her youngest son, Jan Kelly Lotridge, his wife, Suzanne, and their daughter, Courtnei Lotridge, daughters-in-law Marshia Byte and Frieda Byte, as well as husbands, Mike Byte, Jim Lotridge and Oril Chambers, and eleven siblings: Bessie Cline, Goldie Tucker, Opal Jackson, Marie Alta Pierce, Velma Davis, Allen Greenwell, Homer Greenwell and four infant siblings, each of whom died when less than a month old.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Poplar-Warner Church of Christ, 320 North Poplar, Guthrie, Ok, on October 11, 2021, (which would have been her 99th birthday).
